HeForShe Champions Address The “Shadow Pandemic” of Gender-Based Violence

(New York, 2 June 2020)

With most countries still in lockdown and millions sheltering in place, quarantine and isolation policies are exacerbating conditions for those already vulnerable to different forms of violence. Emerging data shows that since the outbreak of COVID-19, violence against women and girls, and particularly domestic violence has intensified. A shadow pandemic has been growing.

To add their voices of support in addressing this issue, HeForShe Champions and guest speakers convened to discuss the role of men in ending gender-based violence, share solution-oriented best practices from the private and public sector and provide tangible actions to implement.
