HeForShe at COP28: Advancing Gender-Responsive Climate Action

HeForShe At COP

In a bold move toward championing gender equality in climate action, UN Women HeForShe is set to make waves at COP28. The strategic engagement aims to propel the HeForShe Alliance to the forefront of the climate discourse, advocating for inclusive and gender-responsive approaches. Here's a glimpse into the key highlights:

The HeForShe Alliance aspires to be a advocacy force for gender equality in climate action at COP28. The mission is straightforward: ensure the rights and interests of women and girls take center stage in all discussions and decisions. Echoing the call to action from CSW66, HeForShe underscores the transformative role men play in fostering gender equity in climate solutions. The urgency of integrating gender perspectives into climate discussions takes center stage.

Additionally, HeForShe stresses the importance of inclusive approaches and gender-responsive climate plans. According to a study by UN Women, only a minimal 3% of climate finance is dedicated to gender equality, underscoring the urgent necessity for specific funding in this area, and the Alliance is poised to spearhead the push for change. The focus is squarely on advocating for increased financing and supporting gender-responsive climate action, highlighting the profound significance of multistakeholder alliances like HeForShe.

During the conference, HeForShe will be front and center in two events alongside Alliance partners DP World, MTN and HSBC. The DP World & UN Women Panel Discussion promises to be a thought-provoking conversation on the critical role of women and the gender dimension in climate resilience with expect insights from influential participants such as UN Women, DP World, HSBC, MTN, Barefoot College Int, Amref Health Africa, and Bridges to Prosperity.

Simultaneously, the HSBC Balance & UN Women Roundtable will delve into allyship's pivotal role in the private sector, placing emphasis on cultural change and gender equality in the MENAT region. Stakeholders, including HSBC, are poised to engage in discussions about achievements, challenges, and actionable commitments.

As the HeForShe Alliance steps into the spotlight at COP28, its message is clear: it's time to unite for a resilient and equitable future, where gender equality is not just a goal but a reality.
