Bolivia, April 25, 2025 – UN Women Bolivia and Fundación Iguales, with support from the Universidad para el Desarrollo Integral (UDI), hosted a #HeForShe round table in Bolivia. The event served as a follow-up to the Actions for Equality recognition initiative, bringing together male leaders who have championed gender equality in their workplaces. During the discussion, these leaders shared experiences, reflected on their progress, and encouraged one another to continue driving change.
Actions for Equality is part of the HeForShe movement in Bolivia, which calls on men in the country to actively support gender equality. The initiative celebrates meaningful efforts by male leaders in the private sector to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.
To date, companies recognized through the Actions for Equality initiative include the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), BancoSol, Bisa Seguros, GCG Global Consulting Group, Nuevatel, Banco PYME Ecofuturo S.A., Droguería INTI S.A., Grupo Paz, Itacamba Cemento S.A., and Sociedad Boliviana de Cemento S.A. (SOBOCE).
The round table featured prominent male leaders such as Rafael Paz, President of Grupo Paz; Marcelo Morales, CEO of Itacamba Cemento S.A.; Francisco Javier Shwortshik, CEO of SOBOCE S.A.; and Luis Enrique García Rodríguez, former Executive President of CAF. They were joined by women business leaders from the community, creating space for meaningful dialogue on shared leadership.
Participants underscored the importance of increasing women’s participation in decision-making roles and building inclusive workplace cultures that attract and retain female talent. They also emphasized the value of engaging men in awareness and allyship efforts, recognizing their role in fostering long-term, sustainable change.
“Balanced companies deliver better results and help reduce inequalities. Gender equality benefits everyone, including men. Building comprehensive systems of shared caregiving responsibilities is essential for long-term change.”
- María Noel Vaeza, UN Women Regional Director for the Americas and the Caribbean
Chilean authorities also attended, including the Vice Minister of Foreign Relations of Chile, Gloria de la Fuente; the Ambassador of Chile to Bolivia, Fernando Velasco; and the Consul, Raúl Rivera. Their participation reinforced the importance of cross-border collaboration in advancing a more equitable and inclusive region.
