HeForShe Türkiye Launches the Gender-Responsive Sports Reporting Handbook

UN Women Türkiye’s Gender-Responsive Sports Reporting Handbook has been developed in collaboration with Fenerbahçe Sports Club with support from Tüpraş. Created within the HeForShe framework, it is part of the ‘Advancing Gender Equality in and through Sports in Türkiye’ project.

Drawing on international resources and insights gathered from gender-responsive sports reporting workshops, the handbook offers practical guidance for media professionals seeking to bring a gender lens to their coverage of sports. It underscores the essential elements of gender-responsive journalism and serves as a valuable reference for journalists, editors, presenters, graphic designers, camera operators and content creators working across television, radio, print, digital, and social media platforms.

Designed to be both accessible and practical, the handbook highlights key points through text boxes, checklists, and actionable recommendations that professionals can easily apply in their daily work. By promoting fair and inclusive representation, it contributes to a more balanced portrayal of women and men in sports media.

The handbook also includes references to key sources and further reading, making it a useful tool not only for current practitioners but also for aspiring sports reporters and media students.
