UN Women Sweden Hosts HeForShe Conference in Gothenburg to Engage Men as Allies for Gender Equality

HeForShe Sweden

Sweden, May 6, 2025.

“Equality is not a one-man show”. That was the powerful message at the heart of a HeForShe conference, hosted on May 8th at the historic Kronhuset in Gothenburg. Organized by UN Women Sweden and its local chapter in Gothenburg and generously funded by the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland, the event brought together a dynamic mix of voices, united in their commitment to gender equality.

The conference shone a spotlight on the critical role men play in advancing equality and preventing violence. With a focus on practical tools and collaborative action, the day was designed not just to inspire, but to catalyze real change — moving participants from words to action.

Throughout the day, voices from diverse backgrounds shared why equality benefits everyone and how we can move from talk to action. Among the speakers were Jonas Attenius, Chair of Gothenburg’s City Executive Board; Sonja Schough and Elisabet Abrahamsson from UN Women Sweden, Gothenburg Chapter; Niclas Kirchhoff from MÄN; Petra Karlsson from Linnéan Women’s and Youth Shelter; journalist and activist Attila Yoldas; and intersectional equality advocates Ina Dowland Herrera and Danny Lam from TNKVRT.

The program combined inspiration with practical tools for change, creating space for learning, reflection, and dialogue. Music from former Hammerfall bassist Magnus Rosén added a creative element to the day.
