MONUSCO Gender Section organized an awareness-raising workshop on the promotion of transformed patriarchal masculinities as a tool in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence. Roughly sixty officers and non-commissioned officers of the Congolese National Police (PNC), the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and members of the civil society attended the workshop.

In an important move towards gender equality, UN Women Bolivia in recent collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Bolivia, launched the #SíEsDeHombres campaign roughly translating to #YesItIsMen in English. This initiative targets adolescents, and young adults, urging them to rethink and redefine traditional gender roles. By deconstructing harmful stereotypes, the campaign aims to foster societies where equality is the norm, and everyone can fully exercise their rights.

Developed by the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) with UN Women, this toolkit is a comprehensive resource to enhance the capacity of frontline humanitarian workers to integrate protection and support for adolescent boys and male youth (ABMY), including persons with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC), into protection programs.

In the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming, the Yunnan Mingxin Social Work Service Center has worked for nearly 10 years aiding survivors of gender-based violence. The organization’s services range from an abuse hotline to a shelter, “Nesting House”, that operates in an undisclosed location. Since April 2023, the organization has been a member of the network of local civil society organizations in China to receive support from UN Women.

New York, NY, 31 May 2024 – UN Women is proud to announce the African Development Bank (AfDB) as the latest member of the HeForShe Alliance, with AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina named as a HeForShe Champion. This partnership represents a significant step forward in the mission to achieve global gender equality.

Police forces across the UK came together in South Wales on Wednesday 1st May 2024 for a national HeForShe event. The event focused on the theme of ‘Working Together’ and how policing can work together towards gender equality. Speakers highlighted progress and shared good practice of how HeForShe is embedded within police forces and its impact is being spread wider.
