Alongside the United Nations General Assembly, key stakeholders from the global private and public sector gathered at UN Women's HeForShe Summit to reinforce commitments, share innovative solutions, and increase collaboration across sectors to achieve gender equality. 

Indigenous women have managed to influence decision-making and drive significant progress in some communities. They are leaders at the local and national level and protectors of their lands, their cultures, and their people.

In 2016, an inspiring movement began in Klerksdorp, North West Province, South Africa. The HeForShe Taverns initiative set out to challenge the prevailing culture of gender-based violence, foster dialogue around HIV, and promote a sense of community and togetherness. A partnership between the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) and Peace Commission, and UN Women South Africa Multi-Country Office, the programme is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom and the Irish Government.

A powerful initiative has emerged from the UN Women Europe and Central Asia office. In the Western Balkans and Turkey, popular football players are joining forces to tackle toxic masculinity and violence against women. In this groundbreaking collaboration, athletes from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey are taking a stand against social norms that perpetuate inequality and contribute to the alarming rates of violence faced by women.

The European Union Delegation and UN Women as Co-Chairs of the HeForShe Movement in Zimbabwe hosted the 5th Edition of the HeForShe Zimbabwe Impact Summit on the 31st of May 2023 in Harare. The Summit served as a platform for HeForShe Ambassadors to share experiences, exchange ideas and best practices as well as affirm and reaffirm their commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Fenerbahçe Sports Club javelin-thrower Eda Tuğsuz, 26, has represented Türkiye at many international competitions. She was ranked fourth in the world at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and holds Türkiye’s women’s javelin record, with a throw of 67.21 meters. She attributes her success to the unlimited support and attention her father has given her since childhood, without gender discrimination.

Police forces across the UK came together on Friday 21st April to share good practice around what it means to be a HeForShe Ally.

Laith Abu-Taleb is a 28-year-old gender equality activist and tech entrepreneur from Jordan. A youth mobilization specialist for UN Women’s Arab States regional office, he believes that integrating the unique knowledge and experience of young people into the tech sphere is a powerful way to drive not only technological innovation but also social progress. Laith is the co-founder of Arabic HeForShe, a movement to engage men in the fight for gender equality, and the co-developer of WeRise, a UN Women-supported app that promotes women’s empowerment through gamification.

Following the 6 February earthquakes in southeast Türkiye, Fenerbahçe Sports Club’s Olympic Boxer and Coach Şennur Demir visited Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquakes. During the 11 days she spent in the region, Demir not only supported the work of search and rescue teams, but also delivered emergency supplies needed by women and girls.

Bolivia’s national carnival is the country's biggest event, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world. This year ONU Mujeres Bolivia is campaigning HeForShe to depatriarchalize their parties and end violence against women.
